Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) was one of the most influential authors of the nineteenth century. His introduction of German literature and philosophy into Victorian society profoundly influenced later ideas. Volume 28 of this 1896 edition of collected works contains the third volume of a collection of critical essays.
